With my strong communications background, I have found myself asked to provide marketing and public relations work for a number of clients. 

When working in a marketing or public relations role, I strive to meet the needs of my client through these principles:

  • Generate maximize publicity and efficiency while keeping costs low
  • Focus on both social and traditional media outlets in order to drive traffic
  • Offer honest, prompt, and clear communication with media outlets seeking information about my client

One organization that has grabbed my interest is the New York City-based film collective Cinema Under the Influence. Founded and curated by my Syracuse colleague Jon Hogan, I was first asked by CUI to contribute a critical essay for a screening of the film Drive. 

After discussing with Jon how a CUI screening would work just as well in Athens, Georgia as they do in NYC, I suggested that the group bring a program South. Following a discussion over what film would best represent Athens' rich musical history, we settled on Anton Corbijn's Control, a film about the tragic life of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis. Partnering with the Georgia Theatre, Creature Comforts Beer Company, Slingshot Productions, and others from the Athens community, we screened the film at Cine in Athens with an afterparty featuring a live performance from punk rock band Muuy Biien at The World Famous.

In addition to the event that was hosted in Athens, I have also served as a media consultant and social media manager for CUI during many of their screenings, engaging actors like Brian O'Halloran of Clerks fame on Twitter to promote screenings in NYC. 

With the help of the CUI core team, I am currently in the process of planning and marketing a screening of another film and event in Atlanta during the first quarter of 2016.
